Awkward Talks...

Image
Do you have something to say to your significant other but they can’t hear you when you speak. Like really hear you? Does everything you say end up in a fight? If I have something important to say and I don’t want to start a fight, I write it down.   I know that sounds nuts but sometimes we could only talk through letters. My current go to for an awkward “talk” is email...If I have something important to say and I don’t want to be interrupted or misheard, I write an email.  My husband does not check his email all day. He checks it when he has time and has a moment to think...So email is perfect. No I don’t email him everyday, but when we are having a hard time communicating, it helps. When I have something important to say and know I will have a hard time actually saying it - I email it..   Text communication often comes off as more “right now” and can be taken more demanding than intended. Plus they're not read as thoroughly as an email, lette...

TGIF - My Village!

Image
My husband has encouraged me to remind us all about the reason for the season.  Thankfulness! We need to be thankful!   I want us all to remember what Thanksgiving is all about. We do this by reflecting on the things we are thankful for having in our lives.  Good and bad! The month of November and its Fall season is being washed away by Christmas.  Even at my house! But as I put up my Christmas tree early this year, I am going to be thankful as I do so.  I am going to be thankful for the good and the bad things in my life. Today I am going to be thankful I have a mother and a mother in law that both help me more than I could ever repay.  One is my daycare and the other is my third arm when I need it! I am thankful to you both! They forgive me when I am late.  They both look at me with understanding eyes - that say I know you are doing all you can do, it’s ok!! They spoil my babies and love them so so fully!   I ...

Let's Be Realistic

Image
The phrase that keeps coming to mind is “Rome wasn’t built in a day!”  Stuff takes time!!! Just because you prayed today, does not mean tomorrow all your problems are solved!  It still took God six days to complete the world and on the seventh he rested…. Where I am going with this is that miracles take time. The miracle you are asking for may not ever happen, but maybe it wasn’t what you need, so it will NEVER happen!!! Think about that… what if you don’t get what your heart’s desire is?  You will be fine because God will give you something better if you look for the good in all things. For example, I prayed for a son!!! Both pregnancies... But I received two of the bossiest, most beautiful little girls I have ever seen.  These girls are exactly what I needed! I don’t think I would make a good boy mom now that I am a girl mom! Boys are dirty, and my girls are dirty enough for me!!  My girls are exactly what I needed. I needed to be more fem...

Can't Sleep?!

Image
How many of you can't sleep?  How many of you the moment your head hits the pillow, thoughts go off like a rocket of “I didn't do this or I should do that?!” How about those of us that keep a notepad by the bed so we can write things down?   I have been guilty of having a notepad by my side of the bed to use to make my to-do list.  Then, I would flip the page and write all the stupid things I need to do like organize my closet!!!  I am never going to organize my closet.... but I still have to write it down or I can't stop thinking about it, and the ‘train’ just keeps waking me up saying “sppttt you are going to forget to organize your closet....” Damnit it's been 2 hours and I still haven't been to sleep yet?  Then the next thing you roll over and see your husband snoring away and wish you could swat him a little...anyone feel like that? Well that was my regular nightly routine.  Before I had the to-do list I would hardly sleep for fear I would forget ...

Compliments make me feel funny!

Image
I struggle with people giving me compliments - they make me feel funny!  I am not sure why, but when someone says something nice about me, I have an instinctive reaction to be dismissive about whatever they commented about.  I say things like “this old thing”, or “it’s not a big deal”, or I will fidget and feel weird. I have noticed others doing this also.. Why do we do this?   In the last week, a friend of mine had this same conversation.  She also has a “compliments complex.” I have decided that it is just easier to believe the bad about ourselves.  Even about our clothes! Instead of the one nice thing that person said about us, we choose to think that person doesn’t know what they are talking about, even though they just saw you with their own eyes and said you looked nice.  We have decided this person wants something from us.. Which may be true, but they could still think you look nice!!! The compliment is a good thing, but we treat it like it’...

What is Righteous?

Image
The word Righteous has been sticking in my head… I watch that show “Adam Probably Saves the World” (which I LOVE!).  The show is the only place I’ve heard the word anywhere else besides church, that I could recall. I heard “You self righteous SOB!!!” before but I am pretty sure that was not the way righteous was supposed to be used.. I’ve heard about righteousness at church for sure!!  But that’s really about it. I thought righteousness or being a righteous person was something difficult to obtain.  I thought righteousness was something earned. I thought pretty much only nuns were righteous.  And pastors, preachers, and Mother Teresa are all righteous, but not little ol me! Shoot, I evict people from their homes on a regular basis with my job!  How in the world am I going to become a righteous person?!?!? I decided to look up the word RIGHTEOUS! According to Merriam-Webster, Rig...

Church was weird!

Image
From a person that didn’t really grow up in church and never really felt the guilt about not going, church was kinda blah for me..Church felt weird.  Me being at church was odd at best! It was also awkward and uncomfortable if you asked me. But then God told me to go so I had to go…My “My Walk” story describes the experience I had with God telling me at 3am to go to church. So I went and it was weird.  But it was weird because I was weird. I made it awkward, uncomfortable, judgemental, and constricting. Looking at it now I realize I decided to feel standoffish. I decided to be guarded and put my skeptic radar on full alert.  I was the weird one. All those happy people.. what are they so happy about anyway!?!  Why are they grinning and saying Good morning! I tried to blend in as best I could because really, what was I doing there?  Me? I didn’t do church.. this wasn’t part of my Sunday. I was normally in my jammies drinking coffee and watchi...
