It's Like Christmas Morning!

Image
We are currently 16 weeks into The Secret Garden project.  I love this house. I love this project. I am having a wonderful time.  I swear this house is like Christmas morning everyday! How, you say? Well, just let me tell ya all about it!  Once I came to check on the house and its progress.  The new doors had just been installed. It looked exactly like I pictured in my mind and I cried a little. Like that time you got the gift you wanted so bad for Christmas and you were just so overcome with joy you couldn't hold it in anymore. Another time I came to check on progress and the copper awning had been cleaned and polished by the guys.  I wasn’t anticipating it to be finished. I didn’t think it was on the agenda for this week. If I could do a heel kick jump I totally would have, but acrobatics are not my strong suit!  I knew it would look just like new once finished, but everyone thought I was crazy... they couldn’t see it, but I could! ...

The Secret Garden

Image
We have our first project home!  How did we find the house? I drove by it a bunch!  We found this house through a series of events. I had a lady contact me about wanting to rent her home.  After weighing all the options, she decided to sell and not rent.  Each time I drove to her house during the listing process, I would notice this beautiful mess under all the bushes in the lot next to her home.  Finally, the third time I went by I had enough time to actually look. I am almost always late for something.. I remembered my seller was concerned about the neighbor’s yard next to hers, and her mentioning that someone had passed away that was associated with the home.  As I sat there and looked, I noticed under all the bushes and overgrown landscaping that there was something beautiful hidden behind all that mess and I needed to see what I could find!   Later that evening I told Rusty about the house I saw..I explained the hidden beauty I s...

I've Got A Dream!

Image
Have you ever felt like there is more for me?  Like you are not really doing all that you are supposed to be doing with your life?  I did. Or maybe I should I say I still do!   I have a dream.  I have a dream of renovating houses. Not just houses, but I have wild dreams of renovating a whole town!  How? I have no idea!!! But like my Daddy always said “ Scoot, (short for Scooter) How do you eat an elephant?  One bite at a time!” Translation - don’t be overwhelmed. Just start. One step at a time.    Driving around and seeing forgotten about houses are like hidden diamonds in the rough to me and make my heart skip a beat!  You may see a house that needs to be torn down-- If the money makes sense I see a new house. I see potential! I like to take the junk left or found in the house and make it into something too.  I like to take the ugly and make it pretty. I love potential, it makes me grin!   ...

The Group!

Image
The group session… the group bible study… is an amazing thing but difficult at first. . Women are protective! We don’t like people to see the mess under the surface.  We don’t like to share because we think our problems are small compared to someone else’s problems. And they may be, but that does not mean they are not hard and they aren’t real problems for you! I recently found a group of women that all have struggles of their own. They all are seeking Christ and building lasting friendships built on a foundation of Christ.  I never really thought about there being a difference but there is.. These ladies offer support and prayers. They don’t really give advice but provide a soft spot to land and a sounding board, which really is all we want a lot of the times! Your walk is your walk and my walk is my walk... Meaning your hardships are yours and mine are different from yours. The one time this stuck out to me most was when I was at one of my first women...

Why were you invited?

Image
Are you being invited to church?  Did you go? If not, why? I know!!  Because you were too tired, you were too busy, you aren’t into church right now.  Whatever the reason, I am sure you have one. I had one too at one time. Now I think those were silly reasons, but I get it!! The most popular excuse -and mine for a long time — is wanting to sleep.  Are you too tired? You are tired because you are working too hard trying to do everything.  You are too tired because you worry all night instead of sleeping. You are too tired because you are trying too hard for no reason. You are trying to be God.  That's not your department.  You are not in charge of everything.  You cannot keep all the “balls in the air” at the same time.  You cannot help everyone and help yourself at the same time. You cannot be all things to all people.  You cannot control all things at all times. You cannot be God. I figured all that out from go...

Today is enough

Image
Today can be a terrible day.  Today can be a day you wish you never had to see.  Today can be a monumental day with great pain. Today can be a day with just too much to do!  Today can be loaded with stress and mistakes. Today can be a day where you feel like the bug, not the windshield! Today is the only day you have to make it through, though.  Just today. Sometimes the only task in life is to make it through the day. During these days you need God, but the most of you feel like he has left you.  God has not left you. Then why did this terrible awful thing happen? I don’t know, but one day you will know. We are not supposed to know all the reasons why.   God can calm the storm.  You can feel peace in great chaos.  You have to ask for it though, and you have to be willing to receive it.  What does that mean or look like? Well for me, it looks like taking a moment in my head to say “Lord, help me with this” and yo...

What's your excuse?

Image
I may be a closet procrastinator. If I am not in the mood to do something I can find a million reasons why I can’t...or didn’t… Especially in my personal life.  When someone asks why haven’t you done _______? Or what’s the hold up? Or what’s the deal? Boy, I am full of excuses… Are you?    Work, for me, is different most of the time..  I don’t have the luxury of dragging my feet much.  At work, everything is on a time schedule. If I miss the schedule, things are worse for me, so I march on at work, but at home?….or in my personal life?….I can be slow as a snail... I have noticed that when something did not work out as well as I wanted the first time, I tend to sweep it aside.  Exercise - I did not see instant results - that can wait. I am just going to have more clothes to fold tomorrow - those can wait.  It will rain in a day or two - the plants will be fine - opps they died…. For example, I was working on this exact blog...a...
